A Case For The Insane…

How come we have never managed to find a ruler that is afflicted by the vilest of egos. That is afflicted by an inordinate ambition to build the Nigerian state into a nation, and to then be crazy enough to seek to build the African federation?

I write from my stream of consciousness, and the prevailing reality of my existence as a Nigerian, living in the dystopian hell that is Nigeria, and in the hottest part of the paradise turned to Dante’s hell, Lagos, I am surrounded by madness of all hues. I seek to make a case, for the insane.

As undoubtedly crazy as we all are, and do stop with the hypocritical protestations and just read. If you’re not insane, how have you managed to remain sane in the face of the pervasive madness of your daily existence? Just read. It is time to seek out the craziest amongst us, and appoint them our rulers.

I am tired of rehashing our sordid history. I am sick of the lies that are taught in our schools. I am sick of the lies that we have taught ourselves in justification and normalization of these lies. I am mad that you have all normalized the evil contradictions that have practically killed all hopes of bequeathing a Nigerian nation to our children. I am tired that you have all become so insane, that you have found accommodation for the evil that is poised to consume the Nigerian state.

How come we have never managed to find a ruler that is afflicted by the vilest of egos. That is afflicted by an inordinate ambition to build the Nigerian state into a nation, and to then be crazy enough to seek to build the African federation? How come we have not been cursed by the like of the Kim family in North Korea? Why has the like of the Dubai Sheikh not afflicted us all, and then demanded that we forcibly convert to his brand of Islam?

Why have we been afflicted by little men as Obasanjo, that Jaguda called Babangida? The white bearded saint of Minna Hills? The shoeless and clueless fisherman? Why have we been cursed by men simply burdened with the spirit of incurable poverty as rulers? Why?

Why couldn’t one of them have been touched by the sort of madness that leads men to believe themselves gods, and to then seek immortality by imagining a future that is at variance with today’s reality, behind which they then harness our human and material resources, and thereby unite and mobilize the people behind purpose? Why?

We have been ruled by mad men to be sure. And we’re currently being ruled by one that is obviously not compos mentis: but theirs are insanities that should have been cured by long term imprisonments, or whatever punishments a true court of justice would have handed to common thieves, coup plotters, treasonous felons, and treasury looters. Oh! I forgot, we are not fettered by courts of justice in this evil land.

Where are the truly insane? You have to be insane, to consider our current reality normal.
